Why I'm terrified of Michelle Bachmann, Palin, and Liz Cheney
An "article" on ontd_political stated "Why Lefty Women Are Scared Stiff of Right Wing Females".
Yeah. No.
I would have posted this in reply there, but am unsure of how much is lolz, and how much is sincere. And, I would prefer not to cause wank. Still...
I'm afraid of putting Bachmann, Liz Cheney, or Sarah Palin in charge of anything with more political weight than the local Dairy Queen. Liz seems to think that 1) Torture works, 2) even if torture didn't work, it's still her god given right to have it inflicted on others who might someday harm this country, maybe, at some point in the distant future, and 3) try to pin her down about women's rights issues. Go on. It's like trying to nail jello to the wall.
Bachmann? You mean the woman who suggested slitting our wrists in blood covenant? The one who things that C02 can't be bad, because it's natural? The one that got upset when a reporter complimented her on her parenting skills? Gee, why would I ever not take her seriously. Obviously, she's the perfect person to represent a sane woman's point of view in Congress.
And Palin... Oh good lord. This is the woman who hunts wolves from helicopters. Who believes in freedom of choice as long as it's the same choice that she wants. Who couldn't tell you what the Bush Doctrine was (something that is on page 1 of my Beginning Political Science book), and quit her job, without even doing a full term.
I am terrified of them, and I don't care who knows it. I'm terrified that someone will actually think that these ideas are the best ideas, and put them in charge of the country.
Here's a woman I would love to hear more about on the conservative side: One that's willing to listen and debate with facts, not emotions. One who can recognize that her way is not the only way, and that it is our differences that make us more than just the sum of our parts. One who is willing to realize that not all problems are black and white, and is willing to find out the circumstances before tarring everything with the same brush. Someone who knows that women have a right not to be looked down upon because of our gender, that we shouldn't be told by our doctors that we don't really know what we want because we're young and female and of course we'll want kids later on. That the government should have no say in who can or cannot marry, or what jobs a person can hold based on their personal preferences. That as long as sex is consensual, it shouldn't be illegal.
I don't care if they believe in the death penalty, or if they want to decrease the size of government and of government spending. I don't care if they are Christian, Muslim, or Jewish. I don't care if they talk about "core family values" or don't personally agree that people who love their own gender should get married. The thing is, your rights end where mine begin. I have a right not to be discriminated against, the same as you, and so even if my mere existence offends someone, that doesn't mean that they can pass laws against people like me, as long as we aren't infringing on someone else's rights.
Last time I checked, no one had the right to never be offended.
